Online play, new kits and faces

Play a friend or a stranger online, ranked or not. New shirts with names and numbers. Faces built from a photo.

Online

Play online: a friend by room code or invite link, or a quick match against anyone. Super Over, T5 or T10.

Live 1v1 for the Ladder (T10) and the Weekend Series (T20): ranked, with your Ranked XI.

Matches run directly between the two players' games, so there's less delay.

Online goes up to T20. Leaving a match under way costs coins; leaving often keeps you out for a day or two.

Kits

New shirts: the side's name across the chest, a big motif of its own, and the player's name and number on the back.

Trousers in the side's colour.

Faces and looks

My Career: make your player's face from a photo. It's read on your device and never saved or sent.

Every player's face now starts from a real face's proportions, matched to his country and skin.

Twelve haircuts, from a buzz to an afro, dreadlocks and cornrows. Beards and stubble look like growth, not paint.

Smaller fixes

Stumps break where the ball hits them, and the bails fly.

A caught or held ball sits in the palm, and the fingers close round it.

Frame rate is 60 or 30, steady on high-refresh screens.

New menu music.

Squads, chemistry and a managers' market

Your Ranked XI on a squad screen of cards, with reserves, chemistry and roles. Buy and sell players with other managers.

Ranked XI

A new squad screen: your XI as cards in batting order. Tap a card, then another, to swap them.

Five reserves, for sixteen in the squad. Swap them in and out of the XI the same way. They don't count against the cap.

Save three squads and choose the one in play.

Roles: the captain, the keeper and two bowlers saved for the death.

Chemistry: team-mates from the same country or league side lift the whole side, by one point on every rating at 22 and two at 30.

Market

List your players for other managers to buy, or buy theirs. You set the price, within a range for the player. The market keeps 5%.

The league market stays as it was.

Smaller changes

Ladder matchmaking finds an opponent sooner: every side is under the same cap, so any match is even.

The home screen shows strokes, a batter bowled, a four and a six from high over the ground.

Kits closer to the concept sheets.

A bowler's economy on his card was wrong. Fixed.

The game is called Stumped: Ultimate Cricket 27. Short balls now get up, every batter can try the scoop, and no two grounds look alike.

The game is called Stumped: Ultimate Cricket 27. Each edition runs September to August, and your My Career player carries over.

Batting

Short balls get up: six metres short reaches the stumps' top, ten the chest, eleven the helmet.

Shots answer the ball's height and length. Drive a short ball and the game tells you.

No special-shot button. Any batter may play a scoop, ramp, reverse sweep or helicopter when the ball invites it, as well as his rating for that shot allows. Journeys and Pathways raise those ratings.

Grounds

Four to six separate stands per ground, in different heights and styles, with grass banks and trees at the smaller ones.

Smaller fixes

Normal's timing window is wider. The old Normal is the new Hard.

Stats and rewards count only for finished matches.

Result-screen buttons wait a moment, so a stray tap can't restart a match.

Next: touch controls, then testing on more phones before the stores.

Where the ball meets the blade is decided as you start the swing: the middle, the toe, the shoulder or an edge.

Off the middle it flies; off the toe the bat twists in your hands; off an edge it goes where the edge sends it.

Pads, bodies, fielders and umpires all stop the ball. The computer's batters bat by the same rules.
