Journeys
How your players get better: a development programme with a few steps. Each step is a goal met in a match, in any mode. Each step trains particular skills, and the last one teaches a trait.
How a Journey works
- Pick a player who meets the Journey's entry rules, a batter for a batting one, say, or a player under a certain rating.
- Meet each step's goal in any match you play: a quick match, a cup, the Ladder or a tour. Steps finished in one match are worth more than ones scraped over five.
- Each step raises the skills it trains, sometimes at a small cost elsewhere, the way real development goes.
- The last step teaches a trait, or upgrades one he already has.
How much a step gives depends on the player: his age and how close he is to his peak. Every Journey keeps an exact record of what it changed, so the last one can be undone.
The kinds
Every week brings new ones: one that adds overall, a Quick or a Signature in turn, and a Trait Journey, so there's always something to work on.
Pathways
A young player's road to 70: always open to Academy prospects and your My Career player, with bigger gains than a Journey. Each one builds a kind of cricketer.
- Top-Order: gets in, sees off the new ball, bats long.
- Power-Hitter: clears the rope without giving it away.
- Middle-Overs: works the spinners, runs hard.
- New-Ball: hits the seam, moves it, hurries the batter.
- Death-Bowling: wants the ball at the end and hits his spots.
- Spin: flight, drift and the one that goes the other way.
- Keeper-Batter: clean gloves and runs in the middle order.
- All-Rounder: bat and ball, both good enough to pick on their own.
Peaks
Every player has his own peak, the best he can become this season. It rises from September to August, and Journeys stop there. A player already at his peak who takes a Journey learns its trait instead, so he keeps improving without the numbers running away. Only a Max Journey takes a player past 97.
The Academy
Young players come through your club's Academy. Journeys are how you raise them from prospects to first-team players.
Journeys are free, for every club.
